Redtail Rustic Furnishings is a locally owned, custom designed, hand-crafted furniture company. We specialize in building personalized furniture to suit your needs. All of our furniture is built from reclaimed barnwood and finished in a variety of ways.
I was raised in a small farming community. Working on a hay farm for many years, I understood the necessity of reusing the materials to accomplish the task at hand. I also learned that there is no substitute for craftsmanship and patience.
I have always enjoyed working with my hands, especially in the medium of wood. As a child I would make toys from the wood I could find. As I started a family and a home of my own, I crafted the furniture that filled my home. Some of the pieces that I made came from childhood places I visited. Building these pieces was a great way for me to spend time with my oldest son as well. He loves to help his Daddy in the wood shop.
Friends and family would visit our home and comment how beautiful the furniture looked and would ask if I would make them pieces. With much encouragement from friends and family, we decided to start a home accent business.
When I think of inspiration for this new adventure, I think of the red-tailed hawk. As a child, I would always see these gracious raptors flying around my home. It seems every barn I reclaim, a red-tailed hawk is near. I see God’s beauty in nature and especially in the soaring hawk. I hope the same beauty is seen in the furniture I build.
The base of this business is taking old wood from abandoned barns and making the seasoned wood into new furniture. This process gives me time to spend with my oldest son, and the hope that when my youngest son is old enough, he can help as well. I cherish the time with my family, and I am glad I can do something I love with the ones I love. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; new things have come.” As with my furniture, the old has passed and the new has come. This is also the journey of our lives.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful journey with me, and I hope my family can serve you in the future.
